13th November 2024 - Sewing Class
Every Tuesday at 11am, our sewing class in Townhead welcomes 10 women, learning new techniques and gaining confidence together. Organised by outreach worker Antoinette Premkumar and led by sewing instructor Geetha de Silva, this weekly class has become a safe space for women to relax, learn, and feel part of a community.
The impact is clear: participants build valuable skills and appreciate the individual guidance they receive. As Anita shared, “I look forward to many more sewing classes in the coming weeks, months.” Amaka added, “I found the sewing course very inspirational, and just a few weeks is not enough to learn the practical and theoretical. I started sewing and want many more classes.”
Geetha teaches sewing machine techniques, pattern cutting, and many other useful skills, benefiting from the smaller class size that makes hands-on guidance possible. Khadra said it perfectly: "I really enjoyed the sew class as the teacher gave me individual attention and moved me basic course to advance and it grew my confidence and I never expected to learn learn so much."
