We Are Raising Funds for our Art Group Refugee Festival Exhibition!

13th March 2025 - Art Group

🎨 We're launching a three-week fundraising campaign to support our Art Group Refugee Festival Exhibition, happening in June!

Our Art Group has been gathering under the guidance of Christina Kyriakidou for more than 3 years now, to explore creativity in a relaxed community setting. This group is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, made possible by National Lottery players. Upwards of 25 participants from Asylum Seeker and Refugee backgrounds join us every Saturday at Transmission Gallery, trying out out different art techniques and connecting with fellow artists.

One participant shared, β€œI like to keep the focus on drawing, it distracts me from my personal problems and worries for the time while I'm doing it. For me it's like relaxation.”

From Brazilian woodcut art with Priscilla Froes, to voice acting techniques with Michael Mandalios, and documentary filmmaking led by award-winner Dr. Evripidis Karydis, during this past year our community members have had a chance to develop their creativity in especial workshops and produce some great things!

Christina has also organised some memorable trips to galleries, museums, historic and scenic sites, such as Robert Burns' Birthplace, the Hunterian and Troon Beach, thanks to the support of Paths for All. Another participant said: "Speaking of this walking trip - I can say that it helped me find some peace in mind and focus on the beautiful landscapes and kind people around me".

One of our recent standout accomplishments has been the "Home in Home" Exhibition, produced in collaboration with Dr. Yeonjoo Cho from the Glasgow School of Art. This exhibition, featuring works produced under a series of workshops with artists Helen de Main and India Boxall, attracted over 230 visitors, providing our participants with some very important experience with a professional exhibition.

We are now starting to prepare for our Refugee Festival Exhibition, which will happen for the 4th time this year, in June! Would you like to support us?

We will auction off some very special pieces produced during our workshops in the coming days. These auctions will help purchase materials to be used by the group in next few months, ensuring their creativity continues to thrive!

πŸ”” We will start this Saturday, March 15th, with a lovely piece from artist Hamdi. Stay tuned!

πŸ’Œ Want to contribute in other ways to our group? Email info@cwin.org.uk to arrange donations of materials or donate directly via Givey with the message β€œmore art.” You can also help us share the word about this fundraiser by sharing this post on your networks.

We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community! Thank you for being a part of our artistic journey.
